The Jordan brand took a step toward adding strength to speed with the sixth edition of its Chris Paul signature sneaker, the CP3.VI.

Nike released an Olympic colorway in September 2012, then released the CP3.VI nationwide in October. The shoe, designed for the quick, hard cuts of the Los Angeles Clippers point guard, introduced Nike’s Hyperfuse technology, a hot-melt process that combined three layers of mesh into an ultra-strong composite. Hyperfuse also eliminated stitching and glue, which made for a cleaner look and a lighter-weight package.

Gone was the Flywire, Nike’s lightweight ultra-strong fibers whose only appearance in the Paul line came in the CP3.V. The upper of the CP3.VI did include diamond cutouts along the midfoot for ventilation, and a low-cut ankle to maximize mobility. Nike’s Podulon cushioning technology, which made its company-wide debut in the CP3.III in December 2009, returned to the midsole for the CP3.VI.

At 12.3 ounces, this was the lightest shoe yet in the Paul signature line.
